A school day can be very busy. De Brug, the restaurant for the Sint-Rembert schools in Torhout, offers a homely oasis where students and teachers can escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy each other’s company – and a delicious meal, of course! A quiet place to relax and meet others
When De Brug opened in 2019, it had a clear mission: to give students and employees a place to sit back, relax and enjoy a healthy meal together with their peers. “We provide a service to people”, says Restaurant manager Bart Van Brugghe. “It’s how we’ve always done it and how we continue to do it.”
That’s not an easy task, knowing that over 2.000 people have lunch at the restaurant every day. “If you add breakfast, snack time and dinner, we serve about 12.000 meals every week.” It makes the atmosphere of the restaurant – and its trays – that much more important.
Classy and functional trays
When it came to trays, the restaurant made a very informed choice. “We made the decision together with school management, restaurant employees, the architecture firm, … We also tested several trays with regards to different functional aspects”, says Van Brugghe.
The Rocca Grain Black came out as the clear winner. They look modern and fit the relaxed vibe of the restaurant, they make very little noise while being handled, they are easy to clean, colourfast and scratch resistant. “Even after 5 years, the trays still look amazing.”
Chef Tinne Darras agrees: “They look great, are easy to use for our customers and our team, they stack well, …”
A longtime and successful collaboration
“We have worked with our Roltex distributor for many years”, says Bart Van Brugghe. Needless to say, the collaboration went very well. “They gave us lots of great options to choose from.”
The fact that the trays are manufactured in Belgium is the icing on the cake. “We try to source all of our ingredients and materials locally. Not just fruits and vegetables, but also meats and more. Roltex trays fit that vision perfectly.”
A peaceful lunch experience
Was De Brug able to fulfill their vision? We asked Veerle Van Audenaerde, teacher and regular customer, about her experience. “I eat here almost every day and I love it here. The restaurant has such a peaceful atmosphere and the menu is amazing.”
Veerle particularly likes the interior: “The flooring gives the whole place a homely touch and the large windows let in lots of light.” The trays fit that look and feel perfectly: “I like how they look, they are modern and classy. You also feel that they are very durable when you hold them in your hand.”
