The Alma restaurants have been providing students with affordable meals and a place to meet since 1954. Today, they have eleven branches, most of them in Leuven but also one in Kortrijk. The starting point

In 2017, Alma began rebranding its restaurants, starting with the one on Campus Gasthuisberg. The result? A restaurant that is bold and colorful but also cozy and warm. Such a wonderful space deserves equally wonderful trays.Hélène Vrebos, purchaser at Alma: “Before the rebranding, our restaurants looked a bit old fashioned. The restaurant on Campus Gasthuisberg was the first to receive a thorough makeover. This included new tableware, cutlery, and trays.”

The process

The restaurant serves over 500 warm meals and between 850 and 1100 sandwiches and other snacks each day. So the trays had to be dishwasher safe, sturdy and not too heavy. But they also had to fit Alma’s new style.

Hélène: “We wanted the trays to be fun and attractive to the students. So together with our design partner, we came up with 17 colorful designs. Roltex seemed like the right partner for the job in terms of customization, quality and price.”

The end result

Alma was and still is very happy with the end result. Hélène: “I have never received any complaints about the quality or usability of the trays. Even after five years, the trays still look good and the colors still pop.”

Looking back, would still take the same decision? Hélène: “The end decision was made by the director. But if it would be up to me: definitely!”

Finally, what do the students think? “I really like the trays,” says medical student Aya, “it’s always fun to get a tray with a design you haven’t seen before. They really fit the overall look of the restaurant too.”
